Minnesota Credentialing Collaborative

What is it?

A centralized, web-based clearinghouse for information used in the credentialing process. The product is an online, easy-to-use way to prepare, save and send the credentialing application that’s accepted by plans, hospitals and other providers.

What isn’t it?

  • Decisions regarding credentials or privileges
  • Primary source verification of any information

How does it work?

The ApplySmart™ Application

  • ApplySmart™ for Credentialing Organizations: [DOC]

  • ApplySmart™ for Health Care Providers: [DOC]

  • SmartSource™ Verification: [DOC]

Once the practitioner or clinic enters the information is entered into the secure Web site he/she selects a destination. That destination may be health plan(s) and/or hospital(s). The system electronically sends the information, and it is stored in a secure database so users may quickly access and update the next time an application is needed.

What are the benefits for practitioners or clinics?

  • Decrease the amount of time required for credentialing/privileging work.
  • Only having to complete the MN Uniform Application once.
  • Offer an easy and secure way for providers to submit credentialing applications electronically to health plans and hospitals.
  • Reduce the time it takes to create a completed, acceptable application.
  • Store data so future applications can be built off of existing information, rather than starting from scratch.

What are the benefits for health plans or hospitals?

  • Ensure applications are complete on the first submission.
  • Decrease the amount of staff time needed in some organizations to type information from paper form into the organization’s own system.
  • Decrease the amount of staff time needed to track down missing information.
  • Enable information to be received electronically.

How much does it cost to participate?

Everyone who benefits from the system helps pay for it. The cost for a hospital is $34 per staff bed based on information reported to Minnesota Hospital Association for 2006. Each practitioner pays $25 to use the tool. Health plans pay based on enrollment. These prices are for participants in Minnesota. For out-of-state pricing, please contact the MCC.

Who is behind it?

Minnesota Medical Association (MMA), Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA), Minnesota Council of Health Plans (MCHP), and Minnesota Medical Group Management Association (MMGMA)
